Today’s play of the day leads us to the bull ring in West Virginia. You can get PP’s here. Race 8 is a Allowance for older horses that have never won 4.
Charlestown – Race 8 – 7F – 4+AlwN4L
Seems like a pretty poor field for the level. To me it looks like only 3, possibly 4 can win. Two look like real serious contenders to me, the #2 Kaufy Big Shot and #9 Julie B. #7 Tiger Rag and #4 Fantastic Bud also look to have legitimate shots, but I believe Tiger Rag is better on the turf and Fantastic Bud comes off a rather poor effort, however the effort that proceeded that one over this Charlestown surface was sharp.
That being said, I like #2 Kaufy Big Shot in here. G. Capuano is winning at 26% here and Dunkelberger seems to have become this barn’s go to rider. He is riding this barns early Triple Crown hope, Wonder Mon on the Maryland circuit. In his last he chased a loose pace setter, who is a good horse himself. Draws a cozy post and has a recency edge and post advantage ( post position is always a concern at these places ) over the #9. Has a touch of speed and should be in a perfect spot without being used.
Play of the day:
$50 to win on the #2 Kaufy Big Shot …
Good luck.

Don’t want to keep anyone waiting in suspense …
#2 Kaufy Big Shot won the 8th at Charlestown today like a good thing should. Only problem is he was bet like a good thing. Went off at 3-5 from a m/l of 9-5. I promise I don’t condone betting these types, but I think that is three odds on horses in a row, two of which lost. Guess I could add a minimum odds stipulation but that is tough to do before scratches/changes.
1st 2 KAUFY BIG SHOT $3.20 $2.40 $2.20
2nd 9 JULIE B $2.80 $2.40
3rd 4 FANTASTIC BUD $2.60
Julie B and Fantastic Bud made menacing runs and I actually thought Kaufy Big Shot was in trouble on the turn, however once Dunkelberger asked the question he checked out.
