A nice Saturday of racing …

Headed by the stellar card that the Fair Grounds is putting on which includes names such as Pyro and Indian Blessing. In New York, the Gotham has brought out Giant Moon and Visionaire as well as the now horse Saratoga Russell. If you head to Florida, you can try to guess which Commentator might show up. Oaklawn has the Razorback, which is the returning spot for Zanjero and even Laurel gets in on the action with the Wide Country stakes, as well as the 3 year old debut of Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones’ full sister, Elusive Moment in the 10th.

Aqueduct actually offers two stakes today. The G3 Tobbogan is carded as the 8th and it features Santana Strings from the Asmussen barn, Bold Start, a Triple Crown refugee from last year and the ultra sharp Ravallo. The G3 Gotham is the 9th and it features Giant Moon, Saratoga Russell, and Visionaire.

Laurel’s Wide Country stakes for 3 year old fillies features G2 placed ( as a maiden ) Armonk taking on the best of the rest of the mid-atlantic 3 year olds. Saki to Me is an undefeated filly who hasn’t run outside of Delaware Park for Ed Gaudet.

Tampa has the Challenger Stakes. This race features another ’07 Triple Crown refugee in Imawildandcrazyguy, who really hasn’t been too wild and crazy lately. I like the improving I’vegottabeme to upset the apple cart.

Gulfstream has two graded races on the card, the G2 Richter Scale and the G3 The Very One. In the Richter scale, Chatain and Commentator face off, as well as King of the Roxy and Grand Champion. If Commentator brings his A game, the race is for second money. Problem is, who shows up without his A game far too often. In The Very One, J’ray and Hostess look like the leading contenders going 1 3/8 over the turf.

The Fair Grounds card is the best of the weekend. It starts in race 5 with the Duncan F. Kenner stakes going 6F and ends in race 10, a the 5.5F Bienville Stakes over the turf. The Duncan features undefeated Euroears as well as Les Grands Trois, who was the favorite in the G1 Malibu at Santa Anita. Race 6 is the New Orleands Handicap, a race that features Grasshopper looking for two in a row. Brass Hat, Magna Graduate and Circular Quay will try to make him work for it. Race 7 is the Muniz H. which features Daytona, Brilliant and Twilight Meteor. Interesting situation here is that Mike Smith, the regular rider of Daytona, opted to stay home. Not sure what to make of that. Race 8 is the Fair Grounds Oaks which features champion 2 year old filly Indian Blessing and her nemisis Proud Spell. I keep betting against Indian Blessing and someday soon I’ll be rewarded. Might not be today at 1m 1/16th, but she’ll fail at 3-5 soon enough.  Race 9 is the LA Derby featuring Pyro and the highly regarded Tale of Ekati. I think Blackberry Road may run well here, he was pinned in full of run when this group met last. And to top it off, the 5.5F turf sprint is the 10th.

Oaklawn has the Razorback and Santa Anita has the G1 SA Oaks.

Great Day of Racing. Now excuse me, I have to start gathering together the changes.
