Satruday Big M series finals …

A great night of racing on tap at M1. Three series finals including the Presidential for Free For All Pacers and an open field that includes Bettor Sweet. Some thoughts on all three …

Race 5 is the Open. Three year old stakes horse, #1 Bettor Sweet is the 5/2 morning line favorite. Whether he is the most likely winner is debatable, because this is a prep for the coming up Aquarius series. Others of interest in here are #4 Race Track Ruler, who went 26.3 and 53.3 before weakening to 2nd two weeks ago in this class. #5 Toucam Sam was the beneficiary of #4’s hot pace and won this race Jan. 10th. Toucam Sam has hung up two straight sub-1.50 efforts. #7 Thisbigdogwilfight drops out of the Presidential series and was sneaky good in that division. They crawled around the track and he was actually able to make up some ground into a 27.0 flat final quarter. #8 Crawdad is a remarkable story if nothing else. Horse almost died of an infection after an awesome ’07 year. They have persevered with him and after 4 straight wins he has ascended back to the open level. Went 1.50.2 in his last and paced home in 26.4. #9 Blueridge Western was 3rd to Somebeachsomewhere in the Breeders Crown and than 2nd to Dali in the Matron at Dover. He was flat in his first off the qualifier but is obvious a thread to move forward.

Race 6 is the Clyde Hirt Stake final. #2 Rockinroll Band is going for the series sweep for Dave Miller and Ken Rucker. #7 Oliver Cleo goes out for B. Sears and P. Kleinhans after taking a week off. In the opening division, Oliver paced his back half 53.3 including a final quarter in 26 seconds flat. He’ll be making his 5th career start in here and the sky is the limit. #9 Frankyluvsmeatballs shipped from Cal-Expo to give this series a shot and he won his division last week. He has a good history here and will probably be an overlay.

Race 8 is the Complex Final. I think this race boils down to four horses. #7 Allamerican Idol is going for the series sweep for Sears and Fanning. He has been impressive in both outings. #8 Prize Art was a weakening 3rd behind Allamerican Idol last week but defeated Open Pacers in December. If he moves forward a bit, lookout. #6 Wildridge Same chased Allamerican Idol first over in the 1st division and ran very well in defeat. Last week, he parlayed a perfect trip into a blowout victory. I think #3 Hey Mister DJ has a real chance at 15-1. He goes out for Andy and Erv Miller and last week just rode around the cones for a 4th. It was his first race since October. He has taken a mark of 1.50.1 and I think he’ll be raced tonight.

Race 10 is for the Free For Allers, the Presidential Final. #5 Winbak Speed is the 9/5 morning line favorite. I could have claimed this one for 30k last year and now he might be the best pacing horse in training. My opinion is this race is wide open. #3 Noble Falcon was very sharp in the 1st division before weakening late after battling for about 3/4 of the trip. Last week, they give him a ride around and he had good pace into a very fast final quarter. Sears gets replaced by Tetrick and I think it is all systems go tonight. #4 Western Shore was purchased in the Mixed Sale on Monday for John Canelliere who also owns Bettor Sweet and Philos Hanover. Both Better Sweet and Philos Hanover were privated purchases for the same connections and both have blossomed since the purchase. This guy already has the class and any further improvement might find him in the winners circle. #7 Boulder Creek is a winner of over 3 million dollar in his career. Has speed to get into position. #9 Maltese Artist is a winner of over 2 million but doesn’t appear sharp. #1 Shark Gesture will go over 1 million in winnings with a decent effort.

Should be a great card. Hopefully the winds aren’t too bad.
